Guest Blog and Mini-Review: Chance of a Lifetime by Jodi Thomas

As the holidays wind down and we cuddle into the cool nights, I’d love to take you along on a journey with me to a small town in Texas called Harmony.

When I began CHANCE OF A LIFETIME, I started with Emily, a librarian.  She’s kind and caring with a secret that keeps her fears compartmentalized in her mind.  When a friend from her past asks a favor, she agrees not knowing how far into an adventure they’ll stumble while discovering each other and a secret of the town.

Writing the story of Harmony in CHANCE OF A LIFETIME has been a pure joy for me.  I grew up in a small town and understand how the people’s life stories blend together and how everyone bands together when trouble comes.  So come along with me this cold night in January on an adventure that will make you smile and keep you reading long into the  night.

Emily, the local librarian, has started a writing group, but as the group stumbles through both the fiction and reality of their lives, they’re learning much more than how to write. But Emily suddenly has other things on her mind when a friend from her past shows up in Hamony's
library. Now she must deal with a secret she’s kept for fifteen years—a secret that changed her life and threatens to shatter her future.

Meanwhile, new lawyer Rick Matheson thinks he’s in charge of his world until accidents start happening all around him. Just when he realizes someone is trying to kill him, he meets a beautiful U.S. Marshal named Trace Adam. Now that the marshal has given him an even stronger reason to go on living, he must learn to take a chance on life to dream bigger—and love better—than
he ever has before...
“Another winner...Fans will be delighted.” —Publishers Weekly (starred review)
Mini-Review:
I'm a huge fan of the Harmony, Texas series and I'm right in the middle of Chance of a Lifetime and I am loving it. Not only do I get to revisit one of my favorite small towns and some of my favorite people, but I am getting to know some new ones as well.  There is romance in the air and some mystery as well.  Ms. Thomas can craft a book that draws you in from the first page until the last. And my favorite thing about this series, the real feeling of community.  I live near a community that feels like Harmony and count myself lucky to be a part of it as a transplant (we go to church in it).  So these books are near and dear to me.  I'll have a formal review soon, but know this book is another winner in this series.  Something I can tell from halfway through.  Actually I could tell it from the first chapter when I met Emily the librarian and Tanner.

Library Books Reading Challenge 2013

Ahh... the library, one of my favorite places.  And the Library Books Reading Challenge is the perfect challenge for me. There isn't a bar here where everyone knows my name, but our local library branch does and when I walk in they get my stack of reserve books for me before I even make it to the counter. I love them so much!  This is an easy challenge, check out books, read them and post what you read.  Oh and choose a level to read at.  More details and the sign up can be found at Book Dragon's Lair who is hosting this fun challenge.

I plan on joining at the Adult level which is 36 books and I may move up to the Just Insert IV which is 50 books, but we'll have to wait and see.  I'll list my books as I complete them here.  Make sure you check out the challenge and come join the fun!

Sports Romance Reading Challenge 2013

This is fun and new, a Sports Romance Reading Challenge hosted by Herding Cats and Burning Soup.  It's pretty simple, read a number of romances that center on a sports hero or heroine.  I like sports books so it will be fun to incorporate this challenge into my year.  More details and sign ups can be found here.

I will enter at The Tailgater level which is 6 books.  I'll list them here as I finish and link to my reviews.

Romance Reading Challenge 2013

I love romances so I have to join this challenge and it has a prize of a gift card.  Simply read a romance, review it and enter the review link in Mr. Linky for a chance to win.  Of course you need to sign up for the Challenge first and read through all of the details at ...the bookworm... but it sounds like at lot of fun to me!

Here are my five choices for now (and I have the right to change them):

Completed:

  1. Yours at Midnight by Robin Bielman
  2. Chance of a Lifetime by Jodi Thomas

Erotic Literature Reading Challenge

Crazy Dumbsaint of the Mind is hosting an Erotic Literature Reading Challange and what better way to get through some of the great books I have downloaded to my Kindle that to enter this challenge.  To learn more about the challenge go to this post and read about it and sign up.  There will be a button soon to accompany the challenge.

For now I am planning on joining at the Second base level which is 4-7 books, with hopes to maybe get to Third base ;-) (8-11 books).  Come back to cheer  me on and see what I'm reading. I'll keep up with what I've read on this post and link to my reviews.

2013 150+ Challenge

Since I read over 180 books last year (and that was a slow year compared to the two before it), the 150+ reading challenge is a great challenge for me to join.  I am hoping to get back over 200 again, but with kids at two different schools, one in Boy Scouts, one in Cub Scouts and then my work and other family things, I'll shoot for at least 150.  The Challenge is hosted by My Overstuffed Bookshelf and you can sign up and find out more here.

I'll list my books and links to reviews as I go here on this post.  Hope to see you as part of the challenge!
