My Rating:
Woohoo, pull out the fire extinguishers for this one, because A Night of Southern Comfort is one hot novel! And it starts off hot and it never lets up. But the great part is there is romance and there is suspense to go with the hotness, so this is one great romance package for you readers out there who know that Fifty Shades of Grey is a lot of hype and that the erotica genre has more to it. Though I would technically call this novel spicy, not erotica, because it's all vanilla (to coin the term from 50 Shades) sex. But there is plenty of it in just the right places while again leaving plenty of room for a great storyline as well.

Jackson and Michaela have great chemistry from the very first page and I love watching them try to fight it and finally giving in. But there are the barriers that Jackson has, thinking he can't let a woman into his life all the time, with his career. I liked watching these two characters grow, make mistakes and fall in love during the book. I also liked the secondary characters of Jack's best friends, his partner Lucky, and other friends Teague and Beck and I am really hoping this is a start of a series about "The Boys" because I want a happy ending for each of them and felt they each had a background story from what little I learned about them in this book. So you could say I really enjoyed all the characters in A Night of Southern Comfort.  Michaela and Jackson are very well-done and characters I could easily empathize with which is something I find is important to me when I'm reading a romance.

The romance and suspense plot drove the story. Figuring out the stalker is the main part of the suspense and I must admit I figured it out about halfway through, but it didn't lessen my enjoyment in the least. I really felt the romance was front and center in this book anyway and the suspense was really just a vehicle to get the two main characters together. I did enjoy the suspense plot, thought it was well written and well-executed. It never moved too fast or too slow and it had me hooked.  I like the stalker-type plots, they are very "true-to-life" plots to me and while scary make a good read for me personally.

If you like your romances to sizzle, then this is definitely one for you. Both characters have quite a bit of chemistry and quite a bit of drive for each other. I like that. There is also the great romance to go along as they begin to fall for each other. Add in the suspense and you have a very well-rounded book that will have you turning the pages just as fast as you can, yet when it's over you will be sad to say goodbye to Kayla and Jack. Ms. Covington has done a great job with the characters and writing in this romance and I can't wait to see what she has in store for us next.

About the Book:
One night of passion...

Detective Jackson Cantrell never imagined that one night with an irresistible stranger would turn his life upside down. He’s spent years living in the shadows, but Dr. Michaela Roarke awakened a passion inside him he'd buried years ago.

He never expected the woman would turn out to be the governor's daughter...and his next assignment. The governor blackmails Jackson to secretly watch over Michaela and protect her from a stalker, or kiss his dream job at the FBI good-bye. Swearing to keep things strictly professional, Jackson moves in with Michaela. Too bad his heart can't keep the same promise.

But when the stalker's attacks quickly escalate beyond mere photographs to bodily harm, Jackson must race to save Michaela's life. And he’ll have to figure out how to keep her once she discovers his lie.
