My Review:
If pressed to review this book in just a few words, I would have to say it was amazing and very hard to put down.

Now you know I'm not a woman of few words, so let's go into the whys of my love of Risk of a Lifetime.  First of all characters.  As usual this is a biggie with me and I love that Marcy and JB have a history, they were/are married, he may not know about the still married part, but she does.  They have this bond they cannot sever.  She couldn't sign the divorce papers, he can't help but want to save her and he always calls her "sugar" {swoon}.  However Marcy has stood on her own two feet and JB has continued his life following the dream of being in the FBI.  But when they are thrown back together again the sparks do fly and both characters begin to grow and mature into two people that can make it as a couple.  It takes a crazy man after them both to show them, but they do start to work through things.

I also enjoyed the plot.  There are some curves thrown in this one and every time I thought I had this one figured out, Ms. Shelton changed it up on me.  Kudos to her on this one.  It was a great suspense plot to go with the character development.

I thoroughly enjoyed Risk of a Lifetime. The characters seemed real and I loved the way they matured enough to figure out how to be together.  I also really enjoyed the suspense.  It kept me enthralled through the whole book.  As a romantic suspense book it scores perfectly on both elements.  Keeping a nice balance of romance and suspense.  I truly will look forward to more books by Ms. Shelton!

My Rating: 5.0/5.0

Summary
Three years ago, Marcy Bradley let the man she loved go so he could follow his career dream of being an FBI agent. She sent divorce papers. He signed. She never filed them.  Injured during his last assignment, FBI Special Agent Jean Bernard—JB—Bradley questions the integrity of his fellow agents. A few days recuperation back in his hometown will give him the perspective he needs. The added bonus is it’ll give him time to convince his ex-wife to come back to him, despite his life of risk. But when Marcy experiences a slew of unexplained accidents, JB realizes he brought the danger to her doorstep.  With a killer after them, Marcy and JB run for their lives, escaping to a lakeside cabin. Their love is rekindled, and JB realizes they’re still married, but will there be time for their passion amidst the explosions and gunshots?

Author Biography (from her website):
I live where summers are hot with humidity and winters are freezing cold! Whether enjoying a cool drink by the water on a sunny day or hot cocoa while walking in the snow, I'm always looking for my next happily-ever-after story. Plus what adventure would be complete without an iota of intrigue or a splash of suspense? After all, I grew up watching heroes save the world and rescue the heroine. Or was it that the lady inspired the man so much he had no choice but to risk life and limb to love her forever.

Ummmmm...maybe I'll figure that one out someday. For now though, that's why I write sexy Alphas and the women strong enough to love them.
You might say my writing career began in grade school with advanced English classes. Years later, the love-of-my-life and a family and the everyday world embraced me. I was living my happily-ever-after to the fullest!  No, my stories are not about my life, but I'm glad for all that fabulous research.

Sharing time with my family and pets is always a source of happiness. And, relaxing on my swing with a good book is a great way to start (or end) the day.

By the way, if someone said I could go anywhere in the world, my first response would be:"Where's the water? Where's the sand? Where's the dang suntan lotion?!?!?"

Pretty Reckless by Jodi Linton: Mini-Review & Giveaway

Pretty Reckless by Jodi Linton
Publisher: Entangled Ignite
Pub Date: 3/24
Genre: Romantic Suspense

My Mini-Review:
After thinking I was getting caught up, the week hit again and I'm behind as usual.  However I am over half-way through Pretty Reckless and really enjoying it. So here is my mini-review and stay tuned for a full-review.

I found Pretty Reckless to be a slightly different take on Romantic Suspense.  First the main character Laney, really doesn't have it together.  Think a Texas-version of Stephanie Plum in a way, but not exactly.  She thinks she set on her life, but then her already shaky world is rocked with her ex-boyfriend Gunner returns to town.  I like Laney, I like that she really doesn't have it all together.  But she's trying.  I also like Gunner, he's sexy, he's to-the-point, he's fun. He doesn't pull any punches and he lets Laney know he wants her back. A few problems are there though.  One their history, two her present.  Read and see exactly what I mean, but it makes it interesting.

Next comes the suspense, which is interesting and what brings Gunner, a Texas Ranger to town.  Who is trying to move Ketamine through Pistol Rock?  I think I know, but I won't be sure until I finish.  Either way it's a fun romantic suspense and enjoyable to get to know Laney, Gunner, Nathan and some of the rather eccentric townsfolk of Pistol Rock.

I look forward to finishing this tonight and if it continues like the first half has it will be a quick finish and a great read.  Looking for a fun romantic suspense?  Pretty Reckless is definitely your book!

Summary

Welcome to Pistol Rock, Texas where secrets last about as long as the sporadic west Texas rain showers.

Laney Briggs has long been considered reckless, but she’s turned herself around—she’s respectably engaged and she’s become a Pistol Rock deputy sheriff. Everything’s fine until a dead body turns up and her ex, Texas Ranger Gunner Wilson, decides to stick his boots into the town’s first murder case.

Laney will be damned if she lets Gunner trample all over her turf and her chance at a quiet, contented life. His seemingly endless ability to undermine her resolve and her libido is only outdone by her constant urge to butt heads with him. But when the bodies start to pile up, Laney has to ask the lethal bad boy for a hand—and a truce in exchange for his help.

Having an ex-boyfriend as an ally might not be the best idea, but Laney has always been pretty reckless…

Author Biography

Jodi Linton grew up across the street from a cow pasture, where she was more likely to be seen selling Kool-Aid in a Dixie cup at ten cents a pop, or inviting neighbors over to watch one of her plays staged on her father’s Bass boat.

In 2001, she traded in the rednecks, cowboys, and mesquite trees of her hometown to chase destiny out west. After a few years of mucking it around with the roughnecks, dust storms, and droughts, she decided to dust off her boots and head home. With a History degree in one hand and a marriage license in the other, she followed her husband in 2006 to central Texas the heartland, fabulous Austin.

After settling into the Texas Hill Country with her husband and two kids, she joined the Austin Romance Writers of America, and signed with The Belcastro Agency.  Today she can be found cozied up to the computer escaping into a quirky world of tall tales, sexy, tight jean wearing cowboys, and a protagonist with a sharp-tongue quick enough to hang any man out to dry.

Mini Review & Giveaway: You Again by Ashlee Mallory

You Again by Ashlee Mallory
Publisher: Entangled Ignite
Pub Date: March 24, 2014
ASIN: B00IQOJE4K
Genre: Romantic Suspense

Mini-Review:
A three-hour baseball game last night for my oldest son and The Voice ate into my reading time as I planned to finish You Again last night (yes I'm a procrastinator).  So I'm not quite done, but today is my tour date.  So I will give you my thoughts on the first third of the book and then a full review in a day or two.

I love this book.  I can't wait to read on it.  In fact I took  my iPad to the ballfield, but my boy played so that demanded my attention (his first middle school game).  Allie and Sam are great characters.  I love that she had a crush on him in high school.  I like the chemistry they have together (but it's not rushed).  I am also thoroughly enjoying the mystery and getting to know other characters in the book.  One more thing I love, that both protagonists have children.  Something you just don't see often.  It's an interesting book so far and if the rest follows what the first third is like, then this is sure to be a winner.  So just on that I do recommend this book.  I enjoy Ms. Mallory's writing style and I look forward to reading more by her!

Summary

A hopeless crush…

Back in high school, Allie McBride thought the sun set around Sam Fratto’s smiles, even if they were only friends. Now she’s older, wiser, hotter, and teaching at the same school they grew up in. When Sam joins the faculty, she has a chance to make good on the crush that got away. But when a dead body turns up on school grounds, they realize there might be a murderer in their midst. The heat keeps getting hotter between Allie and Sam, but more might be in danger than their hearts…

The cute kid from high school is all grown up…

A family crisis brings true-crime writer Sam Fratto back to town after more than a decade’s absence. Teaching at his alma mater seems like a good way to pass the time—especially when he sees that Allie, the geeky, sweet-mannered girl from high school, has blossomed into the saucy teacher in the classroom next door. Too bad finding a dead body transforms his return into one of his true-crime books come to life. And when it seems the killer might be after Allie next, it’s up to him to keep her safe…

A killer determined to keep the past buried at any price…

As if dealing with the return of one ghost from her past wasn’t enough, it looks like the killer might be the person they least suspected. Someone from the past. Someone with something to hide. Someone who thinks Allie and Sam are getting a little too close to the truth. If Allie and Sam are going to get out of this alive, these two friends to lovers will have to work together…or die together…

Author Biography

Ashlee lives with her husband, two kids, a dog, and cat surrounded by the majestic mountains of her hometown of Salt Lake.

Born and raised in Salt Lake City, Utah, she always wanted to know what it was like to live on the other side of the mountains. In college, she interned a semester in DC and later attended law school in Syracuse, New York, where she also ventured to Israel for a summer semester. After graduating law school with a taste of what it’s like living in the bigger world, she moved back home to Salt Lake and took the Utah Bar Exam, got married, and settled in with her hubby and two wonderful kids. After a few more years in the legal realm, she grew restless and turned her pen to one of her first loves—writing stories.

Currently, when she’s not working the day job as in-house counsel, she spends her time with the family and squeezing in writing time—anything to avoid the housekeeping. Just kidding, honey! ;)

She writes with romance and humor at the heart of every story—and a healthy dash of mystery and suspense.

Hopefully she pulls it off.
