My Review:
This is my third Erin Healy book and though I loved the first two I feel that she gets better with each book.  The Baker's Wife blends the supernatural with suspense and interesting characters that make you want to keep reading the book and not put it down until you reach the last page.

The Baker's Wife uses a wonderful blend of plot and characterization to move the novel along.  It does not move at breakneck speed, but at that just right speed where you feel the plot building and building until the final climax comes and you just feel like wow - did I just read 300 pages because it didn't feel like it.  The pace feels leisurely but the book is anything but boring.  The book grabs you from the first page and will not let you go.  I became very involved with the characters especially the Bofinger family who have been through so much yet each one still has strong faith.  Despite their strong faith each one still has obstacles they need to overcome as each one of us do.  I like that the characters were down to earth.  The Christians that you like in the novel were not "holier than thou", even the former pastor.  They were loving and caring and cared more about others than themselves.  However, the bad guy in the book, was holier than thou and so wrapped up in himself that he couldn't see clearly.  But I liked that Ms. Healy doesn't make just the bad Christians as selfish there are others who are not Christian that are truly selfish as well.

The suspense plot is very intriguing.  It had me turning the pages and trying to figure out what was going on.  Ms. Healy did a great job with the suspense plot, creating doubt about what was going on so I never was truly sure if what I believed was the truth or not.  I like being surprised in books and The Baker's Wife kept surprising me.

Strong characters and a strong plot make this another winner in my eyes.  Ms. Healy has batted 3 for 3 with her books (the ones that she has written alone) and I will eagerly await her new book that will come out next year (House of Mercy, July 2012).  She has a way with crafting a story that is hard to explain but wonderful to read.  I am now a devoted fan.

My Rating: 4.75/5.0

About the Book:
To save her husband and son, Audrey Bofinger must rescue her enemy.

The Bofinger family has lost their church ministry in a scandal exposed by Officer Jack Mansfield. Hoping to heal and to restore their reputation, Audrey, Geoff, and their son Ed take over a failing bakery in the small community.

Driving to the bakery one morning, blinded by fog, Audrey hits a motor scooter owned by Jack’s wife, Julie. The mangled scooter is crushed and bloody. But Julie is nowhere to be found. Her disappearance coincides with a sudden illness that nearly cripples Audrey.

Jack believes the Bofingers have hurt Julie to take revenge on him, but the evidence dries up and her trail goes cold. At a breaking point, Jack takes the tiny bakery and its patrons hostage, issuing only one demand: Audrey has six hours to return Julie to him, or lose Geoff and Ed forever.

With only an excruciating and intuitive gift, an ex-con, and Julie’s estranged daughter to help search for clues, Audrey starts the search of her life for a woman who has vanished like the fog.
