Book Review: Scream by Mike Dellosso

Scream by Mike Dellosso
Publisher: Realms
Publish Date: February 11, 2009
Paperback, 320 pages

My Review:

Scream starts off with a bang, imagine being on the phone with your best friend, both of you hearing these eerie screams coming through the phone and the next thing you know, you are hearing your best friend's car crash and he's not responding.  That's how it all starts for Mark Stone.  Mark is working hard and dealing with a separation with his wife and his own grief.  Then the screams happen again and someone else dies.  This keeps happening.

At the same time the police are investigating what could be a serial killer, but they still aren't sure.  The reader gets to see things from both the police's side and from the killer's side (though who the killer is, is not obvious).

These two plot lines eventually intersect into one thrill ride that you just have to read.

I had a very hard time putting this book down when life intervened and let me tell you with a 9-year-old, a 5-year-old, a husband and a job, life often intervenes.  I still finished this one in a span of a day and a half.  That tells you how good it is.  So much is going on in this, yet it all comes together so well and I never could quite figure out where it was going.  Add in a Christian element that really adds to the story without being too preachy and this is an out-of-the-park book for me.

I am anxious to find more of Mike Dellosso's books and was so disappointed when I didn't get to be a part of the Darlington Woods tour for FIRST Wild Card Tours.  I really wanted to read that one - so it's probably going on to my wishlist (though I wish it was available for Kindle).  I have The Hunted coming to me from the library and can't wait to read it.

Mike Dellosso is definitely an author to check out and Scream is a book that is hard to put down.
My Rating:  4.5/5.0

How I heard about this book:  I'm not sure, but I know it was someone's blog - whoever you were - thank you very much for sharing this book with your readers!
About the Book:

Otherworldly Screams...
A Madman on the Loose...
This Time the Stakes Are Higher Than Ever

While talking to his friend on the phone, Mark Stone is startled by a cacophony of otherworldly screams. Seconds later, a tragic accident claims his friend's life. When this happens several more times--screams followed by an untimely death--he is compelled to act.
Battling his failure as a husband and struggling with his own damaged faith, Mark embarks on a mission to find the meaning behind the screams and hopefully stop death from calling on its next victim. When his estranged wife is kidnapped and he again hears the screams as she calls from her cell phone, his search becomes much more personal and much more urgent.

FTC Information: I checked this wonderful book out from my extraordinary local library which I love so much.  I have Amazon links on my review pages but I do not make any money from these because of NC laws.  I put them solely for people to check out the books on a retail site.
