Review: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (Chronicles of Narnia, #2) The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis

My rating: 4.0/5.0
I can't believe I tried to read this as a preteen and couldn't get through it. It's a wonderful magical tale of a fantasy world with great characters and an amazing story.

I started listening to it in the car with my oldest son (he's 8) and I was enthralled. I definitely see the parallels to Christianity that C.S. Lewis put into the book, but they are not preachy at all. It's a wonderful fantasy story for kids and adults as well. My son enjoyed this too - so much that we are getting Prince Caspian next and he is looking forward to that. He stayed excited about the books and we played games trying to guess what would come next.

Come and join Lucy, Susan, Peter and Edmond in their wonderful world inside the wardrobe where they meet many characters - a fawn, the white witch, Aslan the lion and the beavers. It's amazing, the imagery beautiful without being too wordy. The conversations interesting and not too dated (DS figured it was written in the 80s - that being old to him). The reader for the audio version we had was wonderful - a British man who did lots of different voices so it was fairly easy to understand who was talking.

I would highly recommend this to those of you who haven't read it and to those of you who have - what did you think of this book?

I will have to pick this one up. I imagine it would be an excellent audio to listen to! My 7 year old was really into audios for a bit, but drifted away. This sounds like the perfect one to get her back into it. We did see Chronicles, but perhaps that would pique her interest in listening to this even more.

I also can't believe that you failed to get through it as a pre-teen. It really is magnificent!
Have you read all the others?

April - you should try it with your daughter. My son wasn't sure at first and then he just loved it.

brizmus - I haven't read the others, but I'm picking up Prince Caspian and Voyage of the Dawn Treader today. yay!

This is a fun one to listen to. I should revisit it, and the whole series anyway. Thanks for reminding me it was so good!

Love this!

Thanks for joining in the party. This is turning out to be a great place to read books from genres I would not normally consider. Love it!
