Cover Reveal: Perfect for You by Ashelyn Drake

Perfect for You
Release Date: September 2014
Swoon Romance

Summary from Goodreads:

Sophomore year in high school comes with its own set of problems. You're no longer a freshmen, but you're still two years away from ruling the school. So, you sit and languish in a kind of purgatory until junior year, when things start to get interesting.

That is, unless during your sophomore year, you find your boyfriend making out with another girl in front of your locker. Then, interesting takes on a whole new meaning, and that's what happened to seventeen-year-old Meg Flannigan. It's no wonder her self-esteem suffered a major hit.

Now a senior, Meg catches the eye of not one, but two guys at school (I know, right?). They happen to both be gorgeous, and each vies for her attention in the most flattering of ways. Sounds good, right? Not if one of the guys is her boyfriend, and the other one wants to be.

Meg doesn’t want to lose Ash. They’ve been together for almost five months, and she’s falling in love with him. But Noah. Ah, Noah. He’s the irresistible guy Meg has been crushing on for two years, and she isn’t ready to send him away either. But stringing both along could have disastrous results, leaving Meg in the cold once again.

One thing's certain. Meg needs to decide between Ash and Noah soon, or she'll lose her perfect match forever.

PERFECT FOR YOU was released previously as two novellas. Ashleyn wanted to give her readers more, and has decided to write an entire novel based around Meg's story.

What's Next 3/13

So last week it was split between Spirit Bound and Searching for Beautiful.  And now I must confess that it was an extra busy weekend and week so I haven't touched either book and I even had to take Spirit Bound back to the library unread.  Why is everything so busy.  We are working hard to de-clutter and though I plan on spending 15 minutes each day doing it, I usually manage to do a lot more. But I'm liking the results!

So let's play this week.  Help me figure out what to read next.  I'm not including review books, these are either from my shelf, on my iPad (Kindle app) or from the library.  Want to participate? Head over to Icey Books and join in!

Why I want to read:
I loved The False Prince and this has been on my Kindle about a year now.  My husband read it and loved it, so I need to get to it!

About the book:
A kingdom teetering on the brink of destruction. A king gone missing. Who will survive? Find out in the highly anticipated sequel to Jennifer A. Nielsen's blockbuster THE FALSE PRINCE!

Just weeks after Jaron has taken the throne, an assassination attempt forces him into a deadly situation. Rumors of a coming war are winding their way between the castle walls, and Jaron feels the pressure quietly mounting within Carthya. Soon, it becomes clear that deserting the kingdom may be his only hope of saving it. But the further Jaron is forced to run from his identity, the more he wonders if it is possible to go too far. Will he ever be able to return home again? Or will he have to sacrifice his own life in order to save his kingdom?

The stunning second installment of The Ascendance Trilogy takes readers on a roller-coaster ride of treason and murder, thrills and peril, as they journey with the Runaway King!

Why I want to read:
A Time to Kill hooked me on legal thrillers back when I was in college so I can't wait to read the sequel.  I bought this shortly after it came out, but still have not read it, so it's calling to me.

About the Book:
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier.
The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly? And what does it all have to do with a piece of land once known as Sycamore Row?

Why I want to read:
I have thoroughly enjoyed the Chemical Garden trilogy and can and can't wait to finish it.  Part of me doesn't want it to be over and the other part really wants to find out how this last book goes down.  This is a library book, so it's only been languishing about a week, but I've been dying to read it since it came out last year.

About the Book:
Time is running out for Rhine in this conclusion to the New York Times bestselling Chemical Garden Trilogy.

With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn’s worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine’s side, even if Linden’s feelings are still caught between them.

Meanwhile, Rowan’s growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.

In this breathtaking conclusion to Lauren DeStefano’s Chemical Garden trilogy, everything Rhine knows to be true will be irrevocably shattered.

I'm going to stop with three this week.   So what should I read?  You can use the survey for ease but I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments as well.

Book Review: Unraveled by Jen Frederick

Unraveled by Jen Frederick
Genre: New Adult Romance

Review:
Unraveled is a very interesting book. The third in the Woodlands series, but the first I have read, it works great as a stand-alone, but you can bet on it that I am going back to read more about Noah and Bo who were in the Marines with Gray the main character of this book.

Full of alpha males who joke around, fight sometimes and just generally enjoy each other's company Unraveled wins on that alone.  I live in the middle of two Marine bases, one of them I believe is the largest on the East Coast so I grew up thinking men with short hair and buff bods were hot (of course not all of them are buff in reality, but the majority look pretty good).  However as most parents around here do, they warn you off the Marines, lol!  Of course we were 16-18 at the time, I think if I would have been older they would have been perfectly fine, in fact I have a brother-in-law who is a Marine and I adore him.  Okay my thoughts aside, I also like the way the guys act.  Typically guys in my age group don't act like this (or maybe they do in the service) but I do know the younger guys do.  There is a different camaraderie with guys now, than there was 15-20 years ago.  And I love the camaraderie that is shown between Bo, Noah and Gray.  These guys have been through it all together and have a strong friendship.  But when Gray starts wondering about what Bo and Noah have now in their relationships and Sam enters the picture things get interesting.

Sam is a great main character too.  She is a widowed young woman and I mean young.  Her husband died in service with the Army and when he died she was robbed of her life and plans too.  So she has just been coasting along for two years with her husband's things still scattered around her condo, a job bartending and half the time she sleeps in her childhood room at her parents'.  And even though she is coasting I can feel her silent strength and I like that.  As a crocheter, I like that she knits as well showing that there is a younger generation working in the needlearts.  But the story picks us as Gray enters the picture. At first she feels lust and she doesn't even want to feel that for another man in the service.  But she does, but slowly there is something more and it scares her.  But  not as much as it scares him since he's been hurt in the past and truly believes there are no good relationships when you are in the service.  But of course they learn to trust and that's what makes the story awesome.  And at the center too is the fact that Gray is up for re-enlistment and has 45 days of leave (which is why he's in Sam, Bo and Noah's town) to decide what to do.  And what will he do? Well that you have to read the book for.

But know this, Unraveled is full of great characters, attraction that will scorch your ereader (have your significant other handy, just a warning), romance, a lot of humor, friendship and good fun.  While New Adult at it's core, this is ultimately a feel-good book and not as gritty as some New Adult.  But it's wonderful and has me clamoring for more of Jen Frederick's characters and storylines.  So read it and come back and let me know what you thought (or what you thought if you have already read it).  It's an A+ in my book.

My Rating: 5.0/5.0

Summary
Twenty-five-year-old Sgt. Gray Phillips is at a crossroads in his life: stay in the Marine Corps or get out and learn to be a civilian? He’s got forty-five days of leave to make up his mind but the people in his life aren’t making the decision any easier. His dad wants him to get out; his grandfather wants him to stay in. And his growing feelings for Sam Anderson are wreaking havoc with his heart…and his mind. He believes relationships get ruined when a Marine goes on deployment. So now he’s got an even harder decision to make: take a chance on Sam or leave love behind and give his all to the Marines.

Twenty-two year old Samantha Anderson lost her husband to an IED in Afghanistan just two months after their vows. Two years later, Sam is full of regrets—that she didn’t move with her husband to Alaska; that she allowed her friends to drift away; that she hasn’t taken many chances in life. Now, she’s met Gray and taking a risk on this Marine could be her one opportunity to feel alive and in love again. But how can she risk her heart on another military man who could share the same tragic fate as her husband?

Excerpt
THIS WAS ONLY TEMPORARY, I reminded myself, as Samantha so sweetly kissed me back. I'm only here for a short time I reminded myself but as I felt her tongue stroke the side of my tongue, as she nipped her teeth against my lip, I wanted to just drown in the sensation. Her scent filled my head and the air around us shrank until all I knew was her small body sitting so close to mine. I moved my hand from her shoulder to cup her neck and angled her face for deeper penetration. I licked every inch inside of her mouth until the taste of her was all that I knew on my tongue.
And all that time I stared in to her green eyes and not once did she look like she was anywhere but right here with me. I saw my reflection there. Her heartbeat was made wild by my kisses.
And temporary was the farthest thing from my mind.

Her Summer with the Marine by Susan Meier

Their competition has never been so irresistible

The last person Ellie McDermott wanted to run into after returning to her hometown is Finn Donovan, her high school nemesis and the guy she crossed the line from enemies to lovers with one night years ago. Now ex-military, tattooed, and still sexy as hell, Finn is a complication Ellie doesn’t need—she needs to concentrate on saving her family business.

Finn’s entire life, Ellie was there, going head-to-head with him in every class, bee, and test. So it’s no surprise she’d show up just as he was about to take over her father’s struggling business. It is a surprise, though, that his attraction to her is even more explosive than it had been. Acting on their attraction is one thing, but Finn has to turn a profit to save his own family, and nothing—not even love—will get in his way.

Stealing the Groom by Sonya Weiss

Friends don’t let friends marry the wrong woman…

Chad Walker may be a take-no-chances man with a plan, but there’s no way Amelia Snyder is going to let her best bud marry Mean Girl #1—even if the wedding is solely so he can secure the controlling shares in his family’s company. But free-spirited Amelia’s at-the-altar groomnapping scheme takes a surprising turn when she ends up as the blushing bride instead.

Suddenly, with Amelia living in her handsome husband’s home—in his bedroom, no less—she starts to reconsider their strictly platonic arrangement. But Chad’s always been anti-risk and definitely anti-love, and betting a lifetime of best friendship on the chance at forever might be the biggest gamble of all.

What's Next? 3/6/14

I love the What's Next meme over at Icey Books and now that I am accepting less review books and have a little more leeway in my reading I want to participate.  So help me decide this week what to read next from these books on my current TBR pile.  Some are review, some are library and some have been on my Kindle for awhile.  Give me your thoughts and if you've read the book let me know.

Dark Witch by Nora Roberts (The Cousins O'Dwyer trilogy book 1)

Why I added it:  I seem addicted to Nora Roberts lately and it's on my Kindle, the second book comes out soon.

About:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes a trilogy about the land we’re drawn to, the family we learn to cherish, and the people we long to love…

With indifferent parents, Iona Sheehan grew up craving devotion and acceptance. From her maternal grandmother, she learned where to find both: a land of lush forests, dazzling lakes, and centuries-old legends.

Ireland.

County Mayo, to be exact. Where her ancestors’ blood and magic have flowed through generations—and where her destiny awaits.

Iona arrives in Ireland with nothing but her Nan’s directions, an unfailingly optimistic attitude, and an innate talent with horses. Not far from the luxurious castle where she is spending a week, she finds her cousins, Branna and Connor O’Dwyer. And since family is family, they invite her into their home and their lives.

When Iona lands a job at the local stables, she meets the owner, Boyle McGrath. Cowboy, pirate, wild tribal horsemen, he’s three of her biggest fantasy weaknesses all in one big, bold package.

Iona realizes that here she can make a home for herself—and live her life as she wants, even if that means falling head over heels for Boyle. But nothing is as it seems. An ancient evil has wound its way around Iona’s family tree and must be defeated. Family and friends will fight with each other and for each other to keep the promise of hope—and love—alive…

The Deepest Secret by Carla Buckley

Why I want to read it: Comparisons to Gone Girl which I absolutely loved have this moving it's way to the top of my possible review pile.  I received this from NetGalley and realy want to review it.

About:
A riveting, poignant family drama perfect for readers of Defending Jacob and The Memory Keeper's Daughter, which explores the power of the secrets people keep-the darker, hidden facets of our lives, and what happens when they come to light.

Diagnosed with XP, a rare medical condition which makes him lethally sensitive to light, Tyler is a thirteen-year-old who desperately wants just one thing: to be normal. His mother Eve also wants just one thing: to protect her son. As Tyler begins roaming their cul-de-sac at night, cloaked in the safety of the darkness, he peers into the lives of the other families on the street-looking in on the things they most want hidden. Then, the young daughter of a neighbor suddenly vanishes, and Tyler may be the only one who can make sense of her disappearance…but what will happen when everyone's secrets are exposed to the light?

Missing You by Harlan Coben

Why I want to read this: It's Harlan Coben and I have it from Netgalley for review.  I am so excited about this book!

About:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Harlan Coben, a heart-pounding thriller about the ties we have to our past...and the lies that bind us together.
It's a profile, like all the others on the online dating site. But as NYPD Detective Kat Donovan focuses on the accompanying picture, she feels her whole world explode, as emotions she’s ignored for decades come crashing down on her. Staring back at her is her ex-fiancé Jeff, the man who shattered her heart—and who she hasn’t seen in 18 years.

Kat feels a spark, wondering if this might be the moment when past tragedies recede and a new world opens up to her.  But when she reaches out to the man in the profile, her reawakened hope quickly darkens into suspicion and then terror as an unspeakable conspiracy comes to light, in which monsters prey upon the most vulnerable.

As the body count mounts and Kat's hope for a second chance with Jeff grows more and more elusive, she is consumed by an investigation that challenges her feelings about everyone she ever loved—her former fiancé, her mother, and even her father, whose cruel murder so long ago has never been fully explained. With lives on the line, including her own, Kat must venture deeper into the darkness than she ever has before, and discover if she has the strength to survive what she finds there.

Searching for Beautiful by Nyrae Dawn

Why I want to read it: I'm intrigued and it's another possible review book.

About:
Before, Brynn had a group of best friends, a loving boyfriend, a growing talent for pottery. She had a life. And after…she had none.

When Brynn lost the boyfriend who never loved her, the friends who feel she betrayed their trust, and the new life just beginning to grow inside her, she believes her future is as empty as her body. But then Christian, the boy next door, starts coming around. Playing his guitar and pushing her to create art once more. She meets some new friends at the local community center, plus even gets her dad to look her in the eye again…sort of.

But can Brynn open up her heart to truly find her life’s own beauty, when living for the after means letting go of the before?

And finally:

Spirit Bound (Vampire Academy #5) by Richelle Mead

Why I want to read this:  I love this series and it's a library book.

About:
Prepare to be Tested.

Dimitri gave Rose the ultimate choice. But she chose wrong...

After a long and heartbreaking journey to Dimitri's birthplace in Siberia, Rose Hathaway has finally returned to St. Vladimir's-and to her best friend, Lissa.
