Review Copy Arrival: The Bridegroom by Linda Lael Miller

The Bridegroom (A Stone Creek Novel) by Linda Lael Miller

I received this from Nancy Berland through Shelf Awareness.

Publisher: HQN books
Publish Date: July 28, 2009
Pages: 384

From the book cover:

Undercover agent Gideon Yarbro is renowned for stopping outlaws almost before they commit a crime. But now he must stop a wedding—despite the bride's resistance. Lydia Fairmont will lose everything if she doesn't honor her betrothal to a heartless banker. Unless she marries someone else instead…whether it's a love match or not.

Determined to honor his own decade-old promise to help Lydia, Gideon carries her off to Stone Creek and makes her his reluctant wife. Forget a honeymoon for "show"—not with a vengeful ex-fiancé on their trail and a hired gun on the loose. But there just might be hope for the marriage…and two hearts meant for each other.
This will be my first novel by Linda Lael Miller and it sounds really good. I can't wait to dive into this one.

Waiting on Wednesday - August 5th

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating.

My "can't-wait-to-read" selection for this week is:

Evil at Heart by Chelsea Cain

Release: August 11, 2009

Chelsea Cain’s novels featuring Portland detective Archie Sheridan and serial killer Gretchen Lowell have captivated fans through two nail-biting entries, Heartsick and Sweetheart, both of them multiweek bestsellers in The New York Times, USA Today, and Publishers Weekly.

Gretchen Lowell is still on the loose. These days, she’s more of a cause célèbre than a feared killer, thanks to sensationalist news coverage that has made her a star. Her face graces magazine covers weekly and there have been sightings of her around the world. Most shocking of all, Portland Herald reporter Susan Ward has uncovered a bizarre kind of fan club, which celebrates the number of days she’s been free.

Archie Sheridan hunted her for a decade, and after his last ploy to catch her went spectacularly wrong, remains hospitalized months later. When they last spoke, they entered a détente of sorts---Archie agreed not to kill himself if she agreed not to kill anyone else. But when a new body is found accompanied by Gretchen’s trademark heart, all bets are off and Archie is forced back into action. Has the Beauty Killer returned to her gruesome ways, or has the cult surrounding her created a whole new evil?

Chelsea Cain continues to deliver heart-stopping thrills and chills in the latest entry in this dynamic bestselling series.

I loved the first two in this series, so I can't wait to read the third!

So what are you waiting on this week? Go here to see what everyone else is waiting on.

ARC Arrival: The Maze Runner by James Dashner

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

I received this from Random House via Shelf Awareness.
Publisher: Random House Children's Books
Pub
lish Date: October 13, 2009
Pages: 374

From the website:

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first
name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open,
Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large,
open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers. Thomas might be
more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

This looks to be really great and I am hoping to share it with my older son as well as read it myself. It is also the start of a trilogy and I am a real sucker for trilogies/series.

I am really excited to read this and hope to have an interview with the author up later this month along with a giveaway.

Mine for this week is:

Cautiously he lifted his hand to touch her cheek. "Earlier, in the Deli
. . ."

Her cheek grew flushed beneath his fingertip. "It won't happen
again."

"Yes, it will. And when it does, it won't be an act. For either
of us."

Whew - feel the heat - I love a strong decisive male. This is interaction between Eve and Noah in Karen Rose's new book - I Can See You which will be out tomorrow. I'm about half through and if life would quit getting in the way I could finish it.
